Living in a box

In addition to discussion about using your eyes, let's ask why is in recent times the need for wearing glasses so much increased? Why is that our grand and grand grand -mums and -dads didn't need so much glasses didn't need so much glasses as we do today.

I would suggest that it is different life style. As the mostly need is for shortsightedness that talks about our inability to see distances. And really, if you compare how often we need to look into long distances vs. short distances, the proportion is opposite with our predecessors. They have had much more situations to look into distances, being village people working in a field or with cattle, spending longer ours in nature. IN nowadays we spend much more time in apartments and rooms, work in offices, and in general tend to be much more inside. We work on computers, watch TVs or play games or read books, that is all short distances seeing.
There is still another dimensions why are we more contracted and shortsighted then our predecessors - the level of anxiety that makes us somehow unwilling to see and relax and stretch our eyes is much higher today then how our grand' lived.
